Women Won Big Last Night

Women Run women Vote Women Win

Last night, women won big across the country and here in New Hampshire, proving that when women run, women win!

Across the country, more women governors were elected than at any other point in history, including the country’s first Black women governor and Native American woman governor.

Minnesota elected the first Native American woman to the Senate, and Colorado elected the first Gen Z woman to the House of Representatives. Here at home, New Hampshire made history by electing the first openly gay man to the US Senate.

New Hampshire elected two women to Congress, a woman Governor, four women to the five member Executive Council, and at least eleven women out of 24 state senators. And at least 50 of the 69 Women Run alums on the ballot won their races, a historic night for the Women Run program.

These wins matter because we know that regardless of party, women are more likely to support policies that benefit women and girls in their community and a diversity of perspectives leads to better outcomes.

The last few years have, at times, felt unbearable. Our country watched with fear and uncertainty as hard fought rights were eroded, and diversity, inclusion and women-led initiatives were attacked.

But women knew this was not the time to be quiet, to step back or to waver.

Together, we organized and marched and fought for our reproductive rights when Roe fell. We supported our LGBTQ+ community when kids were targeted. We fought back against the voting rights attacks that made it harder for women to vote. We encouraged and supported women running for office. And we used our giving power to support the girls and women serving organizations across the Granite State.

We did all of this together. And we couldn’t be more grateful and proud of all of you.

Today is a new day. Last night’s election results will propel us to expand access to abortion and reproductive rights, better child care access, increased support for maternal and mental health, economic equity, and nominations to our courts and executive offices that reflect New Hampshire’s values.

The New Hampshire Women’s Foundation will continue to be a bold voice. We will continue to invest, advocate, educate and empower. Our work isn’t over, and together, we’ll use this momentum to make the Granite State a better place for women and girls.

Thank you to everyone for your votes that propelled women into positions of power.

As always, I remain with you in action, in spirit — and today — in celebration.
