Shannon Lavertu

Community Impact
Gorham, NH

Shannon Lavertu, our Kinship Navigator, has stood out at our agency, the Family Resource Center, for many reasons in the last year. Shannon is a great resource for our agency and our families. She works tirelessly to find resources for anything from Electric bills, to Clothes, to  shoes. On a more personal level Shannon works full time, cares for 4 young boys, and moved to a new residence during Covid. While working she mentored her four boys in remote learning for school.  She started  ‘Jake’s  Neighborhood Patrol Bike’ fundraiser on Facebook last summer. She raised $1300 for bikes for children in foster care, adopted, or relative care. She has given out 9 bikes totaling $800. She still has $500 available and is thinking of making this a yearly fundraiser. Shannon is amazing. She deserves recognition for her awesome caring personality and giving soul. Shannon ROCKS! Shannon started ‘Kids Cook with the FRC’ last fall and it is a huge success. Kids of all ages can cook with their parents and caretakers while attending Shannon’s cooking class live in FRC Facebook page. It’s so fun and has become a hit.

Shannon has helped develop the Kinship program in Coos County and hit the ground running. She has provided enormous to families in need. She traveled through sleet, rain and snow to pick up and deliver countless pounds of food  to families from the mobile food pantry and delivered safety items, diapers, food cards and anything else that was needed by our families.

Shannon coordinated with the Cooking Matters Program to offer Zoom cooking classes to our families in the North Country, which was no small feat getting all the ingredients delivered to families for each class. Shannon helped organize and execute the Christmas Caring Tree project to give all our families great gifts for their children. Shannon is a devoted couponer and trains anyone who is interested in shopping with coupons.
