Below is a compilation of paid family and medical leave research. According to the law, most businesses must provide job-protected leave (up to 12 weeks) each year for employees to care for a newborn, newly adopted child, seriously ill family member or for the worker’s own illness. However, the required job-protected leave is unpaid, which can present a major issue to workers, especially working parents. Included in our research are a fact sheet on the Federal Employees Paid Parental Leave Act of 2009, studies on why paid family and medical leave is essential for all workers and for the well-being of children and polling data on support for paid family medical leave, among other facts and analyses.
